An artist at North Fourth Art Center since 2003, Leon is an imaginative artist, also adept at recreating images from life and other artworks in his creative and carefully rendered style. Animals and people are favorite subjects, which he portrays in paintings, drawings and in fabric and clay.
Leon’s work has been in a number of exhibits at N4th Gallery and has represented the gallery in the AABA/ ARTScrawl display at Hotel Andaluz. In spring 2014, Leon was one of six N4th Artists featured in Augmented Realities, an exhibit sponsored by Bernalillo County Commissioner Maggie Hart Stebbins as part a series of exhibitions in the City-County Building showcasing Bernalillo County artists.
In spring 2015, Leon was one of ten N4th Artists selected for North Fourth Art Center’s collaborative project with the renowned Tamarind Institute, through which his work is now in permanent collections of the lithography series, Printervention. Leon’s work was also selected for Behind the Seen: Artists of the North Fourth Art Center at Loma Colorado Library in Rio Rancho in fall 2016, and for Wabi Sabi, at OFFCenter in fall 2018.
Jesse’s artwork is an interesting contrast in style. His preference is to sculpt ceramic busts of pop culture characters from comics and horror films, but he also creates intricately controlled graphite and ink line drawings and learned to paint by watching Bob Ross on public television. He moves with ease between depicting the macabre with undertones of fantasy and mystery to painting landscapes with happy little clouds floating about pristine mountain lakes.
Jesse was one of ten artists selected in spring 2015, for the North Fourth Art Center collaborative project with the renowned Tamarind Institute, through which his work is now in permanent collections of the lithograph series, Printervention. His paintings have been shown at community events such as the Great Southwestern Antique Show and in local exhibitions such as Behind the Seen: Artists of the North Fourth Art Center at Loma Colorado Library in Rio Rancho (2016). Most recently his work was submitted for 6×6, an international small art exhibition and fundraiser for Rochester Contemporary Art Center in Rochester, New York (2019).
An artist of many talents, Chris creates paintings, clay work, clothing and jewelry, giving everything he makes a unique sense of style. He is very knowledgeable about gemstones and has a penchant for finding and collecting vintage clothing and accessories.
Chris has been making jewelry for many years, promoting his work in arts and crafts fairs and on Etsy. He began painting in 2013, when he started attending classes at the North Fourth Art Center. Since then his work has been in a number of exhibits at N4th Gallery, the AABA display at Hotel Andaluz and in several local and regional exhibitions.
Chris’s paintings were selected for a group exhibit, (This) Ability, at Fuller Lodge Art Center in Los Alamos in June 2015. The show generated his first commission, three portraits of a gallery patron’s teenage children. In 2016, Chris participated in another commission, a large moveable mural painted at the North Fourth Art Center for the US Forest service. Chris’ artwork was also selected in May 2018, for Human Being in a Disabled Version, an exhibition at the Santa Fe Art Institute featuring work by artist in residence Gaëtan Cummings, and for a subsequent show in N4th Gallery, Normal is Everything.
