The OT Circus + ABQArtwalk proudly present this celebration for the souls of the dead documented by local photographer Keith Coughenour. Together we can invite the souls of the deceased back for a visit. Personally I also take this time to reflect and remind myself that tomorrow is not a given, that one day my soul too will be prayed for. Understanding that no one gets out of this world alive, I pray we all learn to viva de tu corazon. And with that I hope everyone will enjoy The First Annual ‘Viva Tu Muerte’ for this first Friday show.

“Viva tu Muerte!”
In honor of an ancient tradition dating back over 5000 years, this show “Viva Tu Muerte’, has been arranged to carry on a celebration of the dead, as well as to start new traditions.
The images chosen for this show display a diverse spectrum of what’s seen throughout the cultures around the world. Touching on traditional imagery including a generation theme, to darker images, as well as showing a more upbeat lighter side. It’s also is a visual depiction of the range of emotions that come with a celebration for the dead. There are serious existential moments juxtaposed with smiles and laughter.
Traditionally in Dia De Los Muertos celebrations we honor and pray for the dead. In doing so we invite there souls back for a visit. During this multi day celebration one day is for the invitation of the spirits of children, the next for the spirits of adults. Pets are also include in the celebration as many are accepted parts of the family. Candles are lit and prayers are made for the souls to find peace within the afterlife.
